It’s easy to take someone who’s never been in the gym before and get them from a 20kg Bench Press to a 50kg Bench Press in just a few short months.
Their lack of previous training and, therefore, their potential to gain strength is huge. You don’t have to be particularly specific or even effective in your coaching and your programming to see this sort of progress.
You can ignore slight deficiencies in technique, you can use a very simple three sets of ten programme and watch the weight sky rocket in a matter of weeks. The real challenge comes after they reach a stage of competency, after they’ve gone from beginner to intermediate and their strength potential is now smaller.
If they came to see you when their strength was 20% of what it could be, there’s a hell of a lot of room for improvement. Once they get to 80% of their strength potential, progress slows and requires a much more detailed approach to gaining strength.
This is where the skill, knowledge and philosophy of the trainer matter the most.
If your clients hit a plateau and you can’t seem to break through it, there’s no reason for them to stay with you.Clients work with trainers so they can make progress towards something they want to achieve.
If they hit a wall with your training, there’s less reason to resign with you each month.
Constantly repeating a 5x5 strength programme with a client who hasn’t gotten stronger in the past six months isn’t going to break through a plateau.
You can blame their commitment or their effort all you like, it’s your job to ensure they’re getting stronger every single month and that progress is being made.
A happy client is a client who improves every single month. If your programming, your philosophy and your coaching are continually seeing great results with every level of client, your success as a coach will be last as long as you want it to.
Programming for Strength is the philosophy that can take any level client (from novice to an experienced trainer) and make them a hell of a lot stronger in just a few short months.
You’ll be able to smash through plateaus with what you’ll learn inside.
This isn’t a step by step, follow the instructions programme where everyone is expected to progress at the same rate on the exact same programme. This is the philosophy, the principles and the practical programming you apply to each of your clients based on their goal, their current weaknesses and your knowledge and experience as a coach to break through plateaus and reach heights in strength you never thought possible.
It’s about learning how to make the right decisions at the right time for the right client. Should they add 5kg to the next set? Are their strength gains showing signs of slowing on their current programme? Is it time for a change in rep range to break through their current barrier? Is it time for a de-load week to let the nervous system recover?
These are all questions you’ll know the answers to once you’ve completed the course.
